Parent Letter 9/3/08

Dear Parents,

Please be going over letters and sounds every night with your child. Also we are studying rhyming words as well as the number of syllables in words. Please concentrate on this with your child at home. Wal-Mart has great flash cards and books that will help with these skills. Snappy words that your children should know at this time are: Little, the, brown, orange, blue, am, yellow, red, I, green, purple, black and white. These should also be reviewed every night at home. One more thing that would help your children's progress in kindergarten is to help with initial sound fluency. This is simply this beginning sound in a word. For example dog begins with the "d" sound. This is a skill that is enforced in kindergarten as well as the DIBELS assessment. I will explain and speak more with you about all of this at parent teacher conferences. Remember I need your help at home too. It is crucial for you to be involved in the learning of your child! Thanks for all you do,

Mrs. Rogers
